Active Shooter
Because of tragic shootings on school campuses, Washington University’s Emergency Management Office, Washington University Police Department and Washington University School of Medicine Protective Services encourage all members of our community to view this video on how to be prepared in the event of such a crisis. https://emergency.wustl.edu/be-prepared/violence/

Building Evacuation
In the event of a building evacuation, the emergency assembly point is located on the parking lot near the dumpsters at the rear of the building. Be aware of any hazards while exiting the building. If  vehicles, emergency equipment or downed power lines block access to this area, assemble on the sidewalk on the north side of Pershing.

CPR and AED
The AED (Automatic external defibrillator) is located on the third floor across from the reception desk. There are several staff members trained to do CPR and to use the AED. A list can be found located in the box that contains the AED.

Duress
The reception desk is equipped with a duress alarm a.k.a. “panic button.” It is located on the underside of the countertop on the right side as you are seated at the desk. In order to activate it, press both buttons simultaneously. This will send an alert to Campus Police.

Earthquake
Drop! Cover! Hold On!

DROP where you are, onto your hands and knees. This position protects you from being knocked down and also allows you to stay low and crawl to shelter if nearby.

COVER your head and neck with one arm and hand

  • If a sturdy table or desk is nearby, crawl underneath it for shelter
  • If no shelter is nearby, crawl next to an interior wall (away from windows)
  • Stay on your knees; bend over to protect vital organs

HOLD ON until shaking stops

  • Under shelter: hold on to it with one hand; be ready to move with your shelter if it shifts
  • No shelter: hold on to your head and neck with both arms and hands

Fire
The building has a fully functioning sprinkler system and fire extinguishers are located in various locations throughout the building. Please familiarize yourselves with their placement.

First Aid Kits
There is a first aid kit located outside of the second floor restrooms and another kit is located outside of the third floor restrooms.

Hazards
If you notice a trip hazard, a wet floor, an unsafe electrical cord or anything that might cause harm, please contact Kurt Mueller or Galen Harrison.

Office Access and Building Security
The main entry doors and the elevator at 276 N. Skinker are programmed to unlock at 8:30 a.m. and to lock at 5:00 p.m. In order to access the stairwell or the second floor via the elevator, at all hours, a WU ID is required. The glass door leading to the third floor reception area unlocks at 7:00 a.m. and locks electronically at 6 p.m.

Tornado
In the event of a tornado, please evacuate to the most interior room possible on lowest level of the building possible. Stay away from glass. For more detailed information about suggested areas, refer to the floor plan diagram located adjacent to each of the elevators.
