Although gift cards provide flexibility and are portable and popular, they are taxable at any amount. Each gift card given requires a Gift, Prize or Award form to be filled out and submitted to the tax department. To avoid the tasks relating to taxable gifts, the best gifts to give are gifts of tangible property, such as food or logo merchandise.
