Two-Factored Authentication (2FA) Log-in Instructions

Two-factored (2FA) is required for access to various WashU systems including VPN and AISystem applications such as FIS, MarketPlace, CITI Human Subjects Education, PDS, SUBS and others under the AISystem umbrella. More systems will be included to this list in the future.

NOTE: If you haven’t set up a 2FA account yet, go to https://connect.wustl.edu/2fa.

To log in these systems you will need to provide the following information:

  • Username:  “wustlkey user name”
  • Password:  “wustlkey password”
  • Second Password:  “2FA authentication method

The authentication method will be either “push”, “phone” or “sms”. Whichever method you prefer.

  1. Typing push – will send a push notification to your primary device that is connected to your account with the DuoMobile App.
  2. Typing phone – will call the primary device listed within your DuoMobile Settings.
  3. Typing sms – will text your primary device a new list of passcodes.
    1. Clicking OK will text you the codes and provide a “Login Failed” screen. Once the passcodes are received, enter the first passcode number (there will be 10 numbers) into the “Second Password” Box and click Connect.
    2. These passcodes are one-time use.
  4. If you have the DuoMobile App, but do not have cellular service, open the DuoMobile App and click on the Key Icon” next to the WUSTLKEY option to display a passcode.

*** If you have multiple devices configured in 2FA, add the number of the device to the authentication method.

Example: In 2FA you have two phones configured. If you want 2FA to call the second phone listed type in phone2 (if you only have one device configured or if you are using the first device you do not need to place a “1” after the authentication mode) for the Second Password.

To verify what 2FA devices you have configured, go to https://connect.wustl.edu/2fa and select the Manage Enrollment button.

Locked Accounts

You have 10 attempts to authenticate. If your account is locked please call 5-8200 and they will assist you. This is also the number to call after hours for support. To confirm it is you, they will ask for your month and day of birth, last four of your social security number and usually one or two of your security questions. They also may ask for the full phone number of the device 2FA is trying to connect.

Please confirm your security questions and answers before you call in.
