Galen Harrison

Director, Administration

After 11 years in the typesetting and typography industry I began working for Public Affairs in 1991 (thanks to Sue McGinn). I started by installing typesetting equipment in my office to create pages for The Record and various publications for the Publications Office (now Creative Services) including Washington University in St. Louis Magazine. At that time I was also able to convert the Public Affairs office from PCs with Ventura Publisher to Macs with PageMaker and then assumed the role of technical support.

In 1999 I took over the role of print buyer as well as maintaining the existing roles I picked up along the way. Another major milestone was developing and administering the Cumulus digital asset management system beginning in 2006. This role continued until 2012 when I was given the role of Director, Administration.

As Director I am responsible for managing IT support along with Technology Coordinator, Jeff Spears, building support with Assistant Director, Administration, Kurt Mueller, and overall operations as the right-hand person to the Executive Director, Karen Daubert. Some of the work I do involves technical training for staff, improve administrative processes to increase efficiency and ensure effective resource management, serve as circulation manager for Washington Magazine, manage software and web services licensing, manage publication and web subscriptions, oversee building projects and, of course, other duties as assigned.

When I’m away from the office I enjoy working on projects at home, going on float trips and camping, smoking and grilling (even though I keep hearing how it’s going to kill me) and enjoying the 20th year of Cardinals season tickets with my wife.
